I am fairly new to "dvd to dvd-r", and have had great success backing up my dvd collection. Many thanks for dvdecryptor & dvd shrink. What a nice gift ? Now, for my somewhat dumb question. I think I know the answer, but would like a comfirmation. If I should lose or damage my primary dvd, would I be able to back up my back up ? Would I have to go about it in the same manner as I did with my primary dvd ? My guess is no, since it has been decrypted already. I'm guessing I could copy from disc to disc using nero express. But would the backed up back up have any noticable loss of quality using this method ?

Backing up a "back up" DVD-R is identical to disc-to-disc copy or backing up a DVD5 (use DVDDecrypter, do ISO read then ISO write).

I would advise against doing on the fly copies of DVD media. It's possible and several people report doing so without errors but to be safe I would generate an ISO image file on the HD then burn that. Here's what you do:
1) D/load and installed DVD Decrypter
2) Choose "Mode | ISO - Read" and rip ISO Image file to HD
3) Choose "Mode | ISO - Write" select image file then burn
That's it. This is the recommended method for all DVD5 (ie. single layer) backups. -
Ya'll realize none of these methods work if there's an error on the disk.
If you have a crappy burn on the original DVDR, then you have to rip it with DVDDecryptor and force it to ignore errors. ISO READ/WRITE works fine this way.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
Mixman380 - you're right that drag/drop will work for unencrypted data. However, it's almost always faster to rip the data then to copy it. I can rip unencrypted DVD5 discs at 8-15x, let's call it 10x ot 13.8MB/s I can't copy that fast in winXP
Also for multiple backup copies it's nice to have the one ISO image file instead of several VIEDO_TS folders. And finally not everyone has Nero or a commerical burning program. Many (myself included) use only freeware tools (IMGTools + DVD Decrypter) and that requires an ISO Image file as the source.
