Ive been trying to export to tape. I am doing this from my computer, and have edited the video in Adobe Premiere. I then would like to back it up, by transfering it back to a miniDV tape. I have made the video to last some 59min and 20 secs. The camera(sony DCR-TRV50E) says "copy inhibit" when it has recorded 54min and 28 secs. Im using the DV-PAL compression scheme. What is this limitation? Can I do anything about it? Im using 16 bit audio has this any effect on this? The tapes I use can record 62min of video, why is it shorter when I have edited the video and want to put it back on miniDV.
Lastly how do you guys make backups of your edited video?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm...that is the first time I have heard of something like that. The main snag is that even though the tape says it's 62 minutes long, it will actually be about 55 - 58 minutes...I use Panasonic MiniDV tapes rated for 63 minutes, and I am really lucky if I get 60 out of them. You might shop around and purchase an 83 minute tape...Panasonic makes them, I think Sony does also.

Okay - well that is probably what happend then. But two things. I can record with the camera to atleast 60 minuts - because Ive done that with the tape im trying to export to. 54.28 doesent that sound a bit short?

If I recall correctly from exporting a file edited in Premiere back to my mini-DV, there are settings ta add some time on the tape before and after the file is recorded.
Check the Premiere options.
The other potential trouble may come from the tape timecode. This may provide incorrect information to the software. As you probably know, Premiere is a bit fussy with the first and last 30seconds of a tape. -
Wow I would try another tape. I always get 65 minutes out of my sony tapes although the last 5 minutes are usually distorted. Or go and get an 80 minute tape.

sounds like the suggestion about timecode (methods may differ here somehow) is a most likely explanation, to test it connect the cam to another analog source and check it's recording time in VCR/VTR mode.
recording in CAM mode may be using the tape more efficiently (just a guess, as it's native to this cam).
