  1. For better or worse I bought a hauppauge wintv-pvr about a year ago, and have not used it much because of the continued disappointing results. I've dedided to now get the system in proper order.
Invariably I have problems downstream in the authoring process - tmpgenc freezes, dvd shrink stops at 20%, etc. I strongly suspect many of these problems are from the hophog encoding bad/dropped frames.

I know that virtualdub has a tool that will go through an avi and log the bad frames; You then go through and delete the bad frames,

Is there a similar tool for MPEG? Since hophog only captures to mpeg and the final product is a dvd, I'd rather not transcode the hophop MPEG output to avi, strip out bad frames & then re-transcode back to MPEG. I've tried demux&remux with tmpgenc but the resulting mpeg is about 50% smaller, so I suspect something wss lost.

    Thanks

try CUCUSOFT's AVI-to-DVD program, found under tools. It does Avi AND mpeg to DVD files. Then Tmpgenc DVD Author to make your menus and chapters. I also have this capture card, only have tried it with ulead movie factory with so-so results (didn't let me forward thru the chapters). Let me know if the other programs work.
