  1. Hello,

First a little background on what I'm trying to do...

Clearplay.com has a DVD player which will filter bad words and
scenes from a DVD. It essentially will turn a more mature-rated
movie into a "PG" version. You put your original DVD into your
DVD-ROM and play it with their player. They use a "filter" which
identifies your DVD and then uses timers so it knows where in
the movie to mute audio or skip scenes. I'm doing this so that
my kids, who would like to see movies marketed to kids, for
example "The Matrix", can watch them once they come out on
DVD. I'm not particularly interested in "censorship" discussions
here. I've heard it all already. I'm going to let my kids watch
some movies with the filters provided by Clearplay.

My problem here is that the Clearplay software determines which
filter to use by searching the Directshow ID and Volume ID of the
original DVD. For example, Spiderman - Wide Screen, has a
Directshow ID of 6699927401640005989 and a Volume ID of
E4023D30. That gives you the idea of the format of those items.

Being kids, they are sometimes rough on things. I prefer for my
kids to watch backups of my DVDs. I burn copies onto DVD-R discs
with no problems. My problem lies in that when a copy is burnt,
it no longer retains the Directshow ID and Volume ID that Clearplay
needs to identify the disc. So, my backup of "The Matrix" won't
    play through the Clearplay software.

QUESTION: Does anyone know how to burn a specific Directshow ID
and Volume ID to a DVD-R?

Thank you for considering this issue. If you need any further
information about this situation, I will be happy to respond.

    Thanks!
    Jeffo

It's hard to do this. A true backup of a DVD-5 probably WILL retain this information. On a DVD-9... I have NO idea how to rip/shrink/burn this while keeping this information.

  4. Do you still want to do this or something of this nature. I plan on buying that RCA dvd player today at walmart..see what's it's about. Things I don't like is the $50/yr subscription fee to dl updates and 300 filter limit.

Anyway I was playing with different dvd software and dvdshrink just isn't doable when doing so many edits it's annoying. Next best thing is Nero Recode since it can merge titles so building a list of timecodes so people can make their own just might suffice. Nothing like 14 filters to select from but just mute a few f words here and there and cut out any bad scenes.

Or you could just come to terms with the fact that in the really real world kids will hear swears.

I remember being about 5 and being AMUSED... yes, amused... that my parents would try to mute swear words in movies.

    Actual conversation:

Me: "Hey, why did you turn it down?"

Mom: "They were saying a bad word."

Me: "I know - they said 'shit'."

    ROFLMAO.

  6. Why go down that road that's been traveled before.

There's another thread with over 200 useless comments of 'don't impose your views on me'. Post there if you must. Put your energy to fighting the bflag on hdtv broadcasts instead.

Please stick to the topic which is making dvd backups simliar to clearplay's.

The answer, sadly, is "pain in the ass to do".

Mr Bass, yes i'm still interested in working with the clearplay filter or something similar.
Have not yet had the time to play around with something myself.

Just wondering if either of you ever found a way to do this? I recently bought a Clearplay DVD player (CP007 USB), and am trying to figure out how to include whatever disk information the player is looking for on my backup dvds. I guess every DVD has a unique signature and I need to include that when I am burning my backups. I don't know if it's the directshow id or volume id or what. Any help is appreciated.

Back when this (now very old) thread was started, DVD-9 ISO copies where unheard of. Now they are common place. If you want to preserve as much as possible then you need to do ISO rips of your DVDs and burn them to DL DVD blanks.

Or just hook your clearplay output to a DVD recorder and make a backup of the filtered version.

It worked perfectly. I used DVD Decryptor to do an ISO rip of the DVD. Luckily, it was an older movie and was only single layer so I was able to use my SL DVD burner to burn it. Thanks again for your help for someone who has been out of the loop for a while.
