  1. I get this "failed to convert . . ." error now whenever I try to create disc images in the Finish>Make disc stage in Ulead DVD workshop 1.0. There is hard disc space and I have checked the files are the right format and I have succesfully made DVDs before. I upgraded to 1.2 and have even used the Ulead CD to "repair" the program (which took me back to v1.0) all to no avail. Any ideas appreciated.

  2. The first item to check is the properties of the source files themselves.

In Ulead DVD Workshop, one can right-click on a given source file and when the pop-up menu appears, click PROPERTIES.

The PROPERTIES read-out helps one check to see whether the files are compliant or not.

If the files are compliant, then there should be *no* need to *convert* any of them - Ulead DVD Workshop will simply burn them to disc without conversion if you check the DO NOT CONVERT COMLIANT FILE check box.

If the files are not compliant, then one can usually figure out - at a glance - why the files pose a problem for the MainConcept MPEG encoder.

Sometimes I work with MPEG files that have the following properties:

    NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
    MPEG files
    24 Bits, 704 x 480, 29.97 fps
    Field Order B
    (DVD-NTSC), 4 : 3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8800 kbps)
    Audio data rate: 256 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo

Knowing these properties, I usually adjust my project settings in Ulead DVD Workshop to *match* precisely - so that no conversion of the files will occur.

How do the specific properties of your files compare?

Also, there's a 1.3 update available on the Web page at the following link:

    Hope this helps,

  3. Thanks for your tips. I have followed lots of ideas but the one that worked was the person who said that if you have 2 Ulead DVD workshop projects in the same folder they can get confused, maybe if the computer has crashed whilst one was open, the program tries to write files in files.

Whatever the reason I re-did the project in a new folder and it worked! In future I will open a new folder for each project to be on the safe side.

    Best wishes and thanks again
