I'm having difficulty understanding anamorphic aspect ratios to get a DVD I've ripped to display as I want in XSVCD format.

The details of the DVD I've ripped are as follows:

720x576 PAL with 140 pixels top+bottom of black bar letterboxing
Box it came in says "2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen" on it
AVIcodec on the VOB files says 2.21:1
PowerDVD reports aspect ratio being 16:9

I want to crop & convert the movie using TMPGEnc so that I end up with the movie displaying as 16:9 ratio on a 4:3 TV so that I can actually see a decent amount of the picture - my TV is not very big.

What I can't figure out is how much I need to crop left and right to get it to 16:9 and what height I need to set in TMPGEnc to maintain the correct aspect ratio (no distorted fat or thin people).

Please help me to understand how this is worked out.

    Thanks.

Forget it. I think I've worked it out.
