***Back-Up Purposes Only***
Hi guys, I still have problems. (After I boot the games up, they dont play.) Def Jam Vendetta stays at "Loading..." screen and ATV Offroad Fury 2 stays at a screen that has "ATV OffRoad Fury 2" on it.
I have tried things people have told me and have got nothing but 3 useless DVD-R's. I simply just want to back-up the discs so I can play them. The burning process seems successful, but when I try playing them, thats when I have problems.
What I have:
v7 PS2
v7 No-Solder Modchip
Swap Magic Disc Ver. 2.0
I have tried slower speeds. I tried different media (I use Verbatim). I have tried RecordNow Max and DvdDecrypter on Def Jam Vendetta, and ATV Offroad Fury 2, and neither of them work. I've wasted 3 discs, and I dont want to be wasting anymore. PLEASE HELP ME!!! WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?! SOMEBODY, PLEASE HELP!!!! Thanks in advance!!

Maybe the ISO got corrupted when you ripped it. Did you try ripping the disc again?
Keep burning coasters and it would have been cheaper just to buy a second copy of the game -
do any backups work on your ps2?
when you installed your no solder mod did you mess with the POTS?
have you tried taking out your no solder mod and booting a backup?
aside from that the only thing i can guess is that your ps2 laser has gone to shit. -
Well here's the thing, all my regular games work fine. Also I have backed-up a few Cd Rom Based Games and they work perfect. If I took out my modchip, wouldn't it not boot my copy up? Anyhow, what are POTS. Besides only installing the no-solder modchip, I've messed with nothing. And the thing is I kept ripping it. I don't think its corrupted, because I tried it about 3 times.

will your ps2 play dvd-r movies? have you tried booting up a ps2 dvd-r without swapping, just booting it straight up and seeing if it goes to the RSOD?
the reason i told you to try it without the nosolder mod was to see if it was causing the problem.
take the lid off your ps2, take the lid off the dvd-rom, remove white magnetic disc from dvd-rom, take out nosolder mod..
now place the swap magic dvd on the spindle (on the dvd-rom) and put the white magnetic disc on top of the SM2 DVD, turn on ps2 and boot it, once it comes up to the screen, remove SM2 DVD & put your backup in (making sure to put white magnetic disc on top of backup), and try booting it. -
Ok, what your saying is take my PS2 apart, and mess with the magnetic disc? Well before I do this, I want to tell you... that when I tried booting up a Dvd-R movie, it didn't load (Sopranos Season 2 Disc 3- just to let you know). I also tried booting up a game (ATV Offroad Fury 2) and that didn't work either. They both went to "Please Insert Playstation (2) Format Disc" screen. This is still with the No-Solder Modchip on. I will take it apart in about an hour and let you know how it works out. Thanks for your help so far!!!!

Before I get started, you want me to leave it open and have the power on? Isn't that dangerous?? Oh well, whatever you say.
-
heh, wait, you've opened up your ps2 before right? i think for a no solder modchip you still have to do a little bit of soldering.
the only thing you have to really really becareful for is that you dont fuckup your reset/eject cable when you're pulling the lid off. -
Ok, yeah. I've opened my PS2 before but only to install the modchip. I was careful of the ribbon cable though. But there was NO soldering at all. Ok, I'll check it out soon.
-
Ok I tried what you told me to do (Without Modchip), and it still went to the "Loading..." screen and you can hear the same sound of the laser pattern. While it is still open, should I try anything else? If not what can I do to fix the problem so I can play my games? Thanks for you help for everything so far. I appreciate it.

do you think maybe if i were to get swap magic 3.0? Becuase the burn is always fine, and the swap is always fine, but for some reason after it loads from "Insert Disc" screen and turns blue, it freezes.
-
i think your ps2's laser is screwed up.
if you cant boot backups (with the lid off), you know it isnt your modchip causing the problems, you know you're backing them up correctly, so that means its your ps2.
you didnt open the ps2 tray while going through the swap proccess with the lid off, right? -
I did the following:
Took out the screws and removed the exterior of the ps2. (Lid)
I then took out my modchip.
Then i took of the thing that covers the cd tray.
I took out the white magnetic disc and did that swap trick.
That's all I did. You say my laser is probly fudged up, but it plays burned cd-r's and regular games. I don't want to mess it up anymore than it already is, because I dont know how to mess with the laser. What should I do? -
you could try messing with the POTS. its a bit hairy to do..
you'll see the little white disc at the back of the dvd-rom, you can turn it and adjust the laser power.
make sure you mark where it originally was, then try turning it left and right and seeing if it will read your dvd-r's afterwards.
make sure you dont adjust it while the ps2 is on though. -
I think I read something about that, isn't there like power levels or something? If so, what should I set it to?
-
if it reads other backup instead of the cd your were saying then try to update your program that burns the disc. Otherwise, if the orginal works okay and the copy work crubies, try and visit psx-backup www.megagames.com/psx for help.......Look to your right when you enter and you should see a list of ps2 utilities.
-
Ok thanx, I have one last question... If I were to buy a real modchip (Messiah, Magic, etc.) and have it soldered, would I still have to ajust the POTS and laser and all that? Please let me know because I might just sell my No-solder and Swap Magic and buy a Magic or Messiah modchip. There is a teacher at a school I went to a while back that was pretty good at soldering, he was in charge of TV Production and he soldered wires in the Radio Room. What are your thoughts of what I should do???
-
Oh, I forgot to mention, I did the same swap (took the lid off) on my neighbor's PS2, and it did exactly the same as mine. Stayed at the screen and made the sound of the laser pattern. Just thought you might want to know that.
-
unless there is something wrong with your burner i dont know what is wrong with the ps2's you've tried swapping with.
you've tried it on 2 differnt ps2's, you're using good media, you've backing it up correctly. -
Yeah, so perhaps maybe it's my burner? It is a "Digital Research" Combo Drive. I bought it at Best Buy for about $130. So what do you think?
-
When I tried it on my neighbor's PS2, it is a v3 I think, no modchip... I did the swap where you take the white disc out and all that. Along with your thoughts on my burner, what do you think of a modchip that I would have to solder?
-
i dont know if a modchip would help you. you seem to have bigger issues going on here.
if 2 ps2's cant load your backups, putting a modchip in it wont help.
you're not ejecting the tray AT ANY TIME when you're trying to boot the backups on the ps2's, are you?
are you are using the dvd swap magic disc when attempting to boot your backups? because there is a CD & DVD version.
are you using + or - R dvd discs? -
I dont eject it at any time. I use DVD-R for my back-ups (Verbatim), and I am using the DVD Version Swap Magic Discs.
-
you didnt hack the firmware on your dvd burner to burn at a faster speed that you should be on your burner, did you?
it seems like you're doing everything right, and you've eliminated your ps2 as being the problem. the only other place i could see there being a problem is with your burner, or possibly a bad batch of dvd-r media. -
No, I did not hack anything in my burner, (I dont even know how). I simply installed it into the bay correctly. So what you are saying is I should try using Ritek Dvd-r's? If that does not take care of my problem, what should I do???
-
Also, another question. I heard you should be able to play DVD-R Movies, and mine does not play them. What's with that? Perhaps I need to try Ritek?
-
Don't know much about modchip, but I over heard that ps2 team are trying to make lots of modchips. Each modchips can play a different sources.
First Modchip made for PS2 was MAGIC 4 -play backups-can't read dvd-r.
later new version was developed and it's MAGIC 6 I believe-plays backup dvd-r and backup games. There are many types, but I know a little about MAGIC only.
By the end of August 2003, this year, I also heard that someone got caught for illegal backups. Police have court order to check on any people who buy modchips. They believe some people are doing illegal copies. That dodu were put to jail for life.
"Be careful for buying Modchip" -
will your dvd-r movies play in your friends ps2? you previously said your dvd-r movies wouldnt play in your ps2..
trying some ritek dvd-r's sounds like the next logical step. -
I didn't think of trying it in my neighbor's PS2. I guess Ritek is my only hope, huh? I don't want to mess with the laser and stuff. Would it matter if the DVD I "backed-up" was DVD-9 and burned on a Memorex DVD-R? Would that make it not work?
