It's more than likely just the fact that it's Sky digital that you're recording.
I believe Sky use very low bitrates for their digital broadcasts.
This is evident during high detail and high motion scenes such as during a football match when the camera pans along a pitch. You'll see a lot of MPEG artifacts if you look at the grass.
Do you get these same artifacts recording from an analogue broadcast ?
I'm considering buying this recorder myself so would like to hear you're feedback on it.

  3. Hi Jimbo,

When you say the credits pixellise, are you meaning obvious pixellation in the dark areas? Most start and end credits have a lot of dark areas. Do you see it in other parts of your films that get dark too?

I've got a DVDR70 and record from a Sky box, and I get this happening in large dark sections. I find it a bit distracting but my wife tells me to shut up and just watch the film - she doesn't mind...

I generally use M2, M2x or M3 for my recordings - but sorry, I haven't sussed which is the most problematic. I'm not sure whether it's Sky that's to blame, or maybe my TV or DVD player (I usually watch the recordings on a separate DVD player and TV).

Having said that, most recordings look really good...

    Cheers,
    Alan
