I have a JVC gr-DVL300. When I use DVIO, I get a 640X480 avi file. Now when I bring it into TMPGEnc to make it an MPEG2 file at 720X480, what should I do to keep the quality loss to a minimum due to the stretching? or is it even a big deal? And how can I tell if I need to set it to Interlace or what Field Order it is? I get these weird line-y things when stuff moves across the screen. I can post a screen if you need it.
I appreciate any help ya'll can provide.
THANKS!

Fir look at it in preview to see if it needs to be adjusted, barring the interlace lines. The image can be adjusted by adding a mask to the file to make appear as it should be. As for the interlace lines, if the final video is to be watched on TV, do nothing, they belong there, and when disppear if you watch it on TV. If you plan on watching them elsewhere, select deinterlace. If the video apppears jerky, change the field. Start with default field order setting, noting where it is, then make a sample video. Repeat changing the field order until you get the right one.

OK. That helps. Thanks. Also, I first made a dvd with DVD MovieFactory 2, and the encoder is crap. My video came out looking like a svcd. Major blockiness. I mainly used it for the menu system, but I'm going to use Adobe Encore instead. Is TMPGEnc one of the better choices to encode the dv file to mpeg2?
Thanks again. -
TMPGEnc works very well for encoding MPG. Other options are CinemaCraft encoder and Mainconcept encoder. I prefer TMPGEnc because of ease of use.
