I'm purchasing my first standalone dvd recorder and am considering either the sony rdr gx7 or the pioneer dvr 510h. I have a sony dv cam and will be transfering video to dvd, as well as transfering vhs's to dvd and recording off of cable. I would like to edit videos and photos and have a Sony Vaio computer with DVD-r/rw. I have never done this before but am assuming I could edit video and add jpegs on my computer's dvd-r. Is that possible and which standalone recorder would be the best? I've read postings on the Sony, but not too much on the Pioneer since it's so new. Someone mentioned that the record quality is poor on the Pioneer, but is it enough to discourage the purchase of the HDD unit? Thanks for any and all help.
