I'm having several problems with the latest FfmpegX. I installed the latest version and reinstalled all of the new binaries. Now all of my encodes fail. I have tried several files - all failed. I've been trying to convert avi files to VCD or SVCD. I am finding the latest version to be less capable than the previos one I was using (6g). Here is a post of my terminal window:

The input file is a previously encoded xvid file from ffmpegX. I have tried using the mpeg4 from mencoder option, butin the terminal I always see it go with xvid. Other than that there is nothing else to "past." What's above is pretty much my entire terminal window. I'm running os 10.2.8. Is there anything else I need to install?

I just tried to encode again: here's my terminal window:

Information about your input file as shown "above" the Open.. field. Like the following for example:

    "VIDEO: mpeg-1, size: 352x288, 25.000 fps, 1150 kbps. AUDIO: mp2, 48000Hz, 224 kbps."

That is all info on the input file. I did note the other post to disable Quicktime as the decoder. I'll try again and choose mencoder instead.

As an aside, I really miss 0.0.6g with it's ability to rip from a disc. But I do understand why you had to disable this feature.

Oh yes, and the codec was Xvid.

OK, this time I checked "decode with mencoder," and more info showed-up in the process viewer window. Here it is:

Well, it encoded the audio this time, unlike the last. But it somehow muxed a 565.7 MB video stream with a 137.6 MB audio to produce an 856.8 MB file ???!!!!. It also did not "auto-split," the file as requested, nor author the bin/que files.

I haven't played the MPEG file yet to find out what the extra 153MB are in the muxed file - seems very odd. But atleast the encode went farther with the decode with mencoder option checked.

    Mr. Anderson,

You're not reading Major's question carefully. He asked you several times to provide him with the information that appears in the main ffmpegX window just beneath the title bar (that says "ffmpegX 0.0.9a) and just above the "Open" and "Save As..." widgets. This information appears when you select the movie file you want to convert, but before you actually start the conversion.

    That id simply:
    "/Users/randolph/Desktop/Video Proj/Thomas.avi."

I provided the specs of this file earlier. It's an avi file(mpeg 4, xvid out put from ffmpeg 0.0.6g) that I wish to convert to MPEG 1.

Like Mildew and Major said, the info that they want from you is, what is written above the "open" & "save as" buttons ?

When you launch ffmpegX, the line above the "open" & "save as" buttons says: "Input can be VOB, MOV, DivX, MPEG, mp2/3, AC3, WAV file".

after open a file, this line changes to a info-line (i.e. VIDEO: mpeg-1, size: 352x288, 25.000 fps.) and thats exactly what the peeps here want 2 know from you (simple, or?)

    Hope this help
