I've got a foreign movie c/w subtitles that I need to convert to SVCD. The movie is an AVI at 23.976fps. The subtitles are in VobSub format.

To play it, I need to convert the movie to PAL. That in itself is no problem for me, except for the subtitles. The movie is 16:9 ratio and I intend to encode it for display on a 4:3 TV.

What I want to be able to do is convert the VobSub subtitles to PAL timing *and* have them display in the black border at the bottom of the screen rather than over the actual picture.

I can do all this already when the subtitles are in SRT or SSA format, but I don't know how to handle it when they are in VobSub. I've tried all the subtitle convertors in the Tools section, but none seems to support this VobSub format, so I can't convert them.

Can someone please point me in the direction of a guide or tool that will allow me to do as described above?

I don't have AVIsynth, and really would prefer to not use this software at all if possible.

    Thanks.

Have you tried Sub Station Alpha? It can load .sab files, and save them as .sub files as well.
    Hello.
