First of all I would like to thank the site for all the help its given me, keep it up. My problem is fitting a film onto one disc. A clip is something like 700mb or whatever but lower than the capacity of the discs I use which are 730mb, but when I want to encode the clip then burn it in Nero it show up bigger and says theres not enough space on the disk, even though the file is smaller, so I end splitting the file. Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

lots more information needed.
What format is the 700mb file (avi - probably DivX, I'm guessing)?
When you say "but when I want to encode the clip then burn it in Nero" - what do you mean exactly? Are you trying to get Nero to encode (convert) it to a VCD? an SVCD?
If the source is an avi, its size has nothing to do with how big the MPEG will be if you try and encode it into a VCD or SVCD.
All that matters is the bitrate and the length of the video.
Also, if you are trying to use Nero to make a VCD directly from an avi, I seriously recommend you learn how to do it properly.
There are many guides on this site - look at the links on the left.
A popular, and very good, way of doing it is:
(Frameserve from VirtualDub optional)
Encode in TMPGEnc
Author in VCDEasy
Burn with Nero.
All of these tools, except for Nero, are free - and are available from the tools section of this site.
Good luck

PS. If you're trying to make a SVCD - look into DVD2SVCD; you'll need TMPGEnc Plus, Cinema Craft Encoder or Canopus Procoder - none of which are free, but I'm not aware of a freeware way of making SVCD's (unless you want to use BBmpeg to do the MPEG-2 encoding, and author with VCDEasy?)

No, it just seems to be before i encode a file, it come ups file to long even though i know its not !

Thanks for the suggestion, will give it a go, but have done many using my method.

Fair enough - but if you learn how to do it without Nero (which many people agree is a great burning app, and okay at authoring, but is less than good for encoding) then you'll understand the answer to your original question.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink!

AVI file size has absolutely NOTHING to do with encoded MPEG size. Remember that and you won't go nuts. AVI file size does have something to do with MPEG quality ( a 2 hour 700 MB DivX with AC2 sound isnt' going to produce DVD quality video, VCD at best if your lucky ).
What determines your MPEG file size is bitrate (of video plus audio). Bitrate and resolution determine the maximum quality level you can achieve. Ther are maximum bitrates for VCD, SVCD, and DVD, which in turn affects quality.
It can sound confusing, but once you figure it out it's pretty simple. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan
