  1. I am using Pinnacle Studio to convert my avi to DVD but it makes a 2.5 gig file into a low resolution 354 meg file. I want to keep resolution but there seems to be no way to change settings.

    Any help is appreciated.

if your software won't do what you need, trash it and get different software.

check the How To: Convert guides at left, and see what tools will fit your needs and how to use them - many will have full-function, time-limited downloads so you can try them out.

personally, I favor TMPGenc to convert from avi to mpeg-2 (dvd standard), with BeSweet to convert the audio.

  3. Does audio need to be converted seperately? I am completely new at this.

I have looked through the forum and not found any kind of basic information. Like, 1) convert video to mpeg-2 with this or that program, 2) make titles or whatever, etc. Maybe that doesn't exist, but I am just trying to do my best.

    Thank

Audio doesn't have to be converted separately, but tmpgenc does not do as good a job at quality as other programs. This is not to say it isn't good. Just not as good.

A program which is specifically designed to convert audio has been tweaked for that purpose.

Tmpgenc is one of the best for converting video and has been tweaked for that.

Personally, when I am converting something to watch on a rewritable dvd, I just let tmpgenc to everything for me. Cause obviously I am not planning on archiving it if it is on a rewritable.

In other projects I have made, such as making box sets of Brisco County Jr and the Greatest American Hero, both of which I am planning on keeping, I used multiple programs, and filters, to create the best looking and sounding video that I could.
