  1. I have just received my order of G04s from Newegg,

Ritek 4X Speed DVD-R 4.7G Single Sided Write Once Media
    50PACK, Model DRD-47-4X-RDSM - OEM

I placed the cake of g04s on a empty 50pak cd spindle and unwrapped the goods, not a scratch on any of the media. First thing i do is look at the media in some light ... and what do you know, i see so sort of pixelation on the media. kinda of like when you leave cd/dvd media upside down to collect dust ... when you wipe the dust off sometimes theres hard to get off dots.. which these look like but much finer and more of it. in the middle of this pixelation are some perfectly circular patches of clean media. the clean patches mainly come in two distinct sizes. one is about 2mm diameter the other about 1/2 inch dia. this pixelation is on every disc and will not come off.. it is embeded in the media it seems

i do not have this problem with other blank media from pioneer4x(pvcr),memorex4x(prodiscS03),tdk 2x, and even my cheapo verbatim 1x(cmc). and these are not the dark spots you see after you burn with cheap media. should i return these or are all g04 like this. if so then im gonna stick with my usual.... the prodiscS03 memorex are excellent.

    So far G04

  2. For what it's worth, I did hear that there is a bad batch of G04s going around right now. I would return them and buy them from somewhere else or wait a couple of months. FYI: did you know the new TDKs are G04 disc? Yep, so are many other manufacturers starting to use them- they are great discs but looks like you might have received a bad batch.

Just an FYI I'm not 100% sure what you seeing on the bottom of your media, but I'd first burn on and run CD/DVD Speed on it to be sure. Second pixelation isn't something on the physical media, its something that sometimes happens to video once its burned to the media. Sometimes the outer edge of riteks looks a little funny, but they always burn correctly for me, so if you haven't tested one yet I'd give it a shot.

  4. to all,
i had this problem with fuji +rws. contacted fuji and they confirmed my findings...contaminated media. they said it was from a defective batch. they sent a prepaid shipping label to return defects and will issue new media.
get your refund now...or contact vendor. hopefully they will respond as did fuji. good luck.

  5. Thx for the help guys... i returned the product to newegg.. the're gonna send me a new cake... but im sure this new cake is going to be like the one i returned.. it is a really big hassle for me to pack and ship. Before you order it states NO REFUNDS, exact item exchange only ...

there was no point in burning them and testiing the media..it was bad media.. i highly recommend not ordering these riteks from newegg for a while ... you might suffer my fate. ill post info on my new cake prolly a week or two laters... hopefully with some good news.

    Thx again guys

  8. I received my RMA'd ritek G04's from newegg, opened them up and they seem perfect. No glue deformation around the edges and no more dust-like particles embedded in the media. I have burned one so far with no worries..... it plays in a sony dvd player that wouldnt play ProdiscS03's and or CMC.

They are great discs. I would love to order some more from newegg, but i'll wait to see if anyone else reports getting bad riteks from newegg.
Newegg is a great company, i have been ordering products from them for a while now. It took a while to get here, but overall im happy that i got a good batch back.
Their RMA feedback is very speedy and very informative, took about a week for them to check the product, the CSR's i talked to are nice.

Please post info on riteks from newegg if you have recently received any,
I would love to order more from them .
    thx peeps.
