I'm using WinDVD Recorder and am having difficulties when capturing video at the 720x480 setting. I seem to be able to make nice captures when I choose the 352x240 setting though. I've uploaded two stills of the two captures. Notice the whacked-out, B&W/purple/green color of the second one.

Any idea why it's doing this? I had the same problem with WinDVD Creator2.

I don't know if this is a factor or not, but if you look at the properties of the jpegs, they show that their sizes are actually only 320x240 and 640x480 respectively. Could this be part of the problem? Any ideas on what I should do? The video card I have is: 128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800.

If it was easy, I would be doing it.

How fast is your system, (CPU and Hard Drives)?

I am working out capture issues with my system. I have seen similar problems using VirtualDub and various codecs. So I will bump this post and hope I see your solution.

Thank you for the reply. If you click on the "computer details" option right above my message, you'll see that information. I sincerely appreciate any help you can provide.

Btw, what do you mean by "bump this post"?

  4. What compression codec are you using? Looks like the chroma channels (U & V) are reversed. Blue is red and red is blue.

Avisynth has a filter swapUV to fix this. Using a different codec could also fix it.

I mean it in the nicest way.

If you have an ATI AIW card, use ATI MMC, not another capture program.

Keeping it on top/active instead of it getting lost in the shuffle, so to speak.

I opened up both videos in the AVIcodec program and here's the info it gave me:

    The good video -
    "File : 1.71 MB (1.98 MB), duration: 0:00:05, type: MPG, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 80 %
    Video : 1.85 MB, 3072 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 352*240 (16:9), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported
    Audio : 136 KB, 224 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0], Supported"

    The bad video-
    "File : 12.19 MB (0.0 B), duration: 0:00:00, type: MPG, 0 audio stream(s), quality: 0 %
    Video : 12.19 MB, 0 Kbps, 0.0 fps, 0*0 (), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Not checked"

    Pretty strange, huh?

I really appreciate the suggestion, but my ATI is not the AIW card.

I kinda figured that's what it meant. Thanks.
