  1. just bought some Ritek G04 media but having trouble burning at 4x. when i burn at 4x, the data on the outer edges of the media gets messed up. however i can burn at 2x with no problems. i was able to burn both the TDK (RICOH media) DVD+R and the Verbatim DatalifePlus DVD-R fine at 4x. i have the optorite dd0201 with the 2.23 f/w. i had also tried to burn the riteks with the 2.17 f/w as well. anyone else having the problem of burning 4x -R media?

  2. I use the Ritek 4x all the time and have had no problems. It could be the burning software that you are using. I use 3 different ones with no problem. Nero, DVD Decrypter (for single layered discs), and clone dvd.

  3. Could be bad discs in the batch. I sometimes get a few bad discs in a spindle of 50 G04s.

Inspect the discs physically. The bad discs I encounter usually have visible imperfections, typically near the outer edge of the disc. I have only noticed this problem on the white-top printable discs though, here in Australia.

  4. I'm using Nero 6 to burn and the dvds look perfect, no scratches or any other imperfections whatsoever. I mean, I'm able to burn fine at 2x no problem. I'm thinking it might be the burner or a bad batch.

Hard to say what it is but my guess would be:

bad disks in batch or bad batch.......which is very very rare. I have burned over a thousand Riteks with never having the end of disc having problems. I usually fill disk between 5 - 30 mb short of software full.....almost 4.7 M bytes.

Or........your burner is not setting the laser to proper power calibration for a 4X burn with the Riteks.

  8. I've burned about 400 G-04's. I'm happier with them than other brands and disks. I do have to say that there is the odd bad spindle. Just sent 2 back to Rima. I do also see the occasional end of disk problems too. I've simply backed off a bit in trying to 100% fill the disk and I haven't seen a problem since. I usually try and go about 20 MB short of a full disk (say set DVD2one to 4450 MB). Yeah I know, the things should work, but I've usually put so much time into a DVD that the last thing I want is to have to re-work it all for 20 MB.

It does beg the question why this type of problem is so rampant in DVDs. Buying anything even vaguely like "quality" CD's and I've never ever seen a similar problem even back when burnable CDs were only a couple of years old. But even higher end DVDs seem plagued with this type issue.

I burned 200 G04s without problem. Got a cake more
and they all burn great (and verify) but get playback errors
in the last 25 percent or so. I slowed down the burning and
all is well again. If I look at a bright light through the disk
I can see that it gets denser towards the outer edge. I think
the coatings are spun onto the disk and it is a very delicate
    matter getting the coatings uniform.

You could try a different burning program and see if the problem persists.
    Good Luck!
