  1. I just purchased the dvr106d in replacement to my optorite. I had a spindle of cheap DVD that the optorite refused to burn so after doing my research; I wanted to give the dvr106d a try. Beside that, the stupid optorite keep giving me coasters! But now, I am actually more confused than when I started.

I tried the cheap DVD, burn to 100% with Nero 6.0, and then an error appeared instead of successfully completed. Fine, I guess you get what you pay for! Then using verbatim blank DVD, I successful backed up a movie of mine just to fine out that none of my DVD in the house recognized the disc; Not my liteon divx player, ps2, pioneer (the only one that came close).

I updated the firmware to the 1.07; but still the same problem! I never had any playback compatibility before with the optorite using the same type of blank disc. Does anyone have and advice that might help? Does having it in an external usb2.0 has something to do with it? Thank you in advance!

    Kevin,

Have you tried something other than Nero 6? I've read here that some versions of Nero 6 can be a problem. Some even advocate going to 5.5.

Do you have packet writing software installed? I didn't get any joy out of my A06 until I uninstalled "WriteDVD!" that gets installed by default. (But no doubt it works OK for many people.)

    Regards,

  3. Thanks for the reply. Following your advice, i found out that it is my external enclosure and the stupid nero software. After i placed my dvr106 in my computer i didn't get the error while recording. I had better playback compatibility, but my dvd player still wasn't able to read toward the end of the disc. Switching to TMPDVD authur, everything seems to be working just fine! I have to try a few more time to be sure but thing are starting to look good. Thanks again!

  5. I would look at media if I were you. You just stated you are using cheap media, that usually means it wont work. Verbatim is known to have some cheap media as well (CMC). Purchase some Riteks or Ricoh's, try it again, then come back.

  6. strange, sure it isnt a conflcit issue with your external setup?

Ive had my old sony500 in an external case for 6 months with usb2 and havent had a bad burn in about 100 discs....had a number of issues with nero 6, so went back to 5.5 with no dramas, and it wasnt a setup issue, as the burner switched between 4 pcs with no dramas. Once you have an external...its hard to anchor it back in a box again!

  7. You know, I find it hard to believe myself. But I really think that there were some kind of conflicts between the external enclosure and the dvr106d. After installing it internally, it was like day and night. I don’t have any more error while burning DVD. Haven’t had one coaster yet since. Even on the cheap disc which actually burn at 4x. Thanks for the reply.
