  1. Hey people, I use TMPGEnc to encode from AVI to VCD/SVCD but it usually takes about 1 hour 30 min to 2 hours for a 45 minute clip. Is there a faster way to encode?

Encoding depends on how fast CPU is. It takes me about 10 minutes to encode a 30 minute show from avi to mpeg2 dvd. Can you give us more info on your PC?

    Thanks

  4. CCE is ~4x faster than TMPGenc, but it's really more CPU based than anything. With my current system (AMD Barton 2500+ OC to 11x200) I can encode at 0.35x source runtime per pass with CCE. When I got started with digital video editing I had an AMD k6-2 350 and it took ~18x source runtime per pass to encode with TMPGenc. That's a large range.

So trying out CCE is a good idea (demo at http://www.doom9.org basic verison costs about as much as TMPGenc) it's really CPU dependant.

  5. I got a 2.4 GHZ Pentium 4, does it have anything to do with RAM also? I got a 256 MB RAM.

  6. There are also a bunch of settings in TMPGenc to speed up encodes. Also the avi codec decompressor can sometimes make a difference. I hate CCE... too damn expensive, hard to work with and tweak, and you can't get a decent trial of it cus you can only encode freakin 30 seconds! But yea.... CPU GHZ = good!

  7. use mainconcept....2 hour avi to DVD in 1.5 hours with slow duron 2000.

    It rules over tmpgenc....

That's extremely slow for a 2.4 GHz box. I bet you got Motion Search Precision set at "Highest quality"? If so, lowering it to "High quality" makes a huge difference in speed, but not any noticable (to me, at least) difference in the end product.
