This might be a bit of a novice queston, SO appologies for this.
I have had a look around the other posts and forums and not found anything that spells out in dumbies terms what I need to do.
So, anyway...I have a DVD I've been asked to get onto VHS (bizzare as that may be).
I tried the 'old school' method of hooking up a DVD to a VHS machine and doing a disc to tape record. No luck.
I need to converted the DVD movie files into a suitable format that I can import into Media100. I have no worries doing the rest.
My problem really is I don't know how to convert the DVD files to something Media100 friendly, that I can then import.
Are any of the following programs of use...Media100i8.2, Cleaner6, toast7 (I'm using a G4 with OSX) or do I need some other ripping software?
Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Cheers

What happened when you tried to record the DVD to VHS from the DVD player to the VCR? You were vague.
Hello. -
when I played back the VHS i just got this crazy rolling screen. Like some kind of scrambled signal
-
wow, these responses are quicker than I expected. Thanks.
It's a cheap shit Domestic AWA DVD player. Should I be able to do this? Perhaps I should just try another DVD palyer. -
The disk. Most DVD players are okay with DVDs. Is the disk a commercial disk?
Hello. -
I recieved it as a copy on DVD-R. Not sure where it came from originally.
-
Is it a commercial movie? I am trying to find out if it has Macrovision or some other copy protection.
Hello. -
"Most DVD players are okay with DVDs " - to ture, that's funny.
yeah I get where you're coming from. The disc looks like someones created it on there home computer. Like I say I recieved it as a copy on DVD-R. Surely this implies it's already been ripped or de-copy guarded? Otherwise it wouldn't be on a DVD-R would it. -
I think you are hem hawing too much. I asked if it was a commercial movie. I still haven't received a yes or no answer. Last chance. Did anyone pay to see this movie or not?

It's an industrial video that I've been given permission to make a copy of.
I have already made DVD copies of it but my annoying client wants it on VHS. I said yes but I don't know how to do this - yet.
I thought I could hook it up simply. but as I said the DVD to tape machine didn't work so I was looking or help.
Clearly there is no guard on the DVD because it copied from DVD to DVD just fine.
I'm not a pirate I'm just a dude wanting to do a job that I've been given permission to do.

So do you have to hack a DVD player to be able to get it to play out a signal that you can record onto a VHS machine?
Is this the case with all DVD players? There is no hack for the AWA machine I have or any AWA machines that I can see (on this ist anyway).
Any more suggestions?
Thanks. -

since the dvdr is not encrypted you do not have to apply a hack to your dvd player. if you are able play back the dvd and it looks good on your tv, the exact video (abeit lower quality) should be recorded onto your vhs taPE. rolling pictures could mean the tracking is bad on the vhs unit, bad tape, or combination of both.
now i don't know if video coming out of a dvd player into a tape unit gets scrambled whether the disc is encrypted or not. if you can i would try a diff vhs machine, not dvd player. good luck. -

thanks Noki. that's what I thought. It looked fine on the TV. But scrambled when I played the tape back. Perhaps I'll try another VHS machine as you suggested.

U say it looks as if it was scrambled which could only mean 2 things, its either the dvd still ahs macorvision or ur wires. A way to do it that is the original "old school" way is to do this.
Hook your dvd player using the red white yellow wire into the vcr as well as the dvd player. Make sure that on the dvd the wire is in the "output" and on the vcr it is "input" If you record it and reply the tape and it is scrambled u have 2 options removing macrovision on your disc using computer and then reburn or buy a strong input/output wire, a very very good one with macrovision remover you can find at fry's or practically any electronic store for about $100-700, mostly they are made by "monster" It should always have the ability to record....theres no need to "hack" ur dvd player....this is similar to vcr dubbing.
Noki said to change vcrs....well u see....the old vcr made in like 1991 and lower were the only ways that can record macrovision movies because they do not have macrovision protection....the vcrs now all have macrovision so u cannot record them. If you dont want to go through burning and finding old vcrs and such what u might want to do is buy this box(you can find it at gaming stores online) for $30 and what it is, is that it is a descrambler you connect your vcr and ur dvd player and it gives u the ability to record it onto vhs and a person also so said that quality will degrade...that is true because dvds are higher even recording it in sp mode will not make as good but will make it pretty well for vhs.
