  1. I haven't made the jump to Panther like so many have, but now all of a sudden, neither OSex nor DVD backup will run?
They start, show up in the dock for a split second, and gone....the only change I've made recently was running Norton Utilities, but that shouldn't causde these apps to just die, right?
Any info would be much appreciated.....

They work fine for me. Make sure you're not using Stuffit 8.0 to uncompress them. Failing that, you might be in need of an 'Archive and Install' installation of Panther, rather than a simple 'Upgrade' install.

Oh, you aren't running panther yet? Have you tried trashing your DVDbackup and OSEx pref files? Is DVD Player and everything else still working OK? You might need to reinstall the OS if all else fails. First, try to uninstall Norton, which is a usual suspect when things go wrong in OS X. I'd avoid that software like the plague.

I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

unfortunately norton and OSX dont go together. try wiseweasels advice, otherwise, you may want to just bite the bullet and do the upgrade to panther, then you can reinstall those apps and im sure they will work just fine!

I don't recall every getting norton to go well with OS 7 through 9.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

really? norton was about the only way you could do any sort of diagnostic/repair beyond just the simple disk first aid which did absolutely nothing! Sure disk warrior is for OS9 and all but even then it was a more in the OS9 days.

when you made the switch to 10.1 or 10.0 even there was little if any diagnostic/repair.

now there are such better apps there isnt the need for norton, and even then it doesnt work very well in the OSX based systems.

Norton is fine and has saved nore than one client's hide. The key to norton is to NEVER install it. always run it off the CD. When launched from the CD, make sure to change the prefrences to "fix automatically" and never do the Harddrive scan.
