  1. Newbie here. I've tried various software packages on several machines. I have a 600 MHZ PIII, 800 MHZ & 850 MHZ AMD K7 Athlon Classics. If I capture MPEG video into the capture card, I can create VCDs no problem. If i convert VOBs to AVIs to MPGs I cannot sync the audio. What am I doing wrong? I am using NERO and a Philips 8X4X24 burner

  3. I use FLASK...I use others... I use MPEG4 slow codec for video and MP3 44.1 KHZ (and I've used 48 KHZ)at 224 and lower.

  4. let me also state that the MPG files and the AVI files I create play fine. But when I create the VCD seems to be when the audio & video become out of sync.

Sometimes I have exactly the same problem: AVI and MPEG Files play in sync on the PC, on VCD or SVCD they are out of sync on the DVD Player.
So this is how I fix it:
    1. Separate the video and audio stream into two files (VirtualDub)
    2. Convert the mp3 audio file into PCM Wave Format (Cool Edit)
    3. Import the video- and audio file into a video editing program (Vegas Video). There you see exactly the same timeshift between video and audio which you get on your DVD player.
    4. Squeeze, stretch and/or move the audio track until you are satisfied with the synchronization. Yes, you have to do it by hand! Usually it's enough to check just the beginning and the end.
    5. Render just the audio track into a PCM wav.
    6. Use TMPEGEnc to build your MPEG1 / MPEG2 using the video file and the corrected audio file.
    7. Finally don't forget to demux/mux.
That's the only solution to fix all my sync problems. Quite time-consuming.
If someone has a better idea: HELP!

  6. HI
I have had this problem for a long time and no one has been able to tell me why. But I have the answer!
Which I found quite by accident.
For some unknown reason TMPGenc makes VCD's that dont play correctly on all DVD players (my own included). After about 5 mins the video speeds up and becomes out of sync! Then slows down again and is back in sync.
I don't know why this happens, but I have the solution (it works for me anyway) And is not as long winded as the last post!
    >
Encode as normal using TMPGenc. Then use MPEGtools (within TMPGenc) to de multiplex the mpeg, it maybe neccessary to rename the extensions .mpv(from .m2v) and .mpa(from .mp2).
Once you have got seperate audio and video files re multiplex them using Xing 2.0 encoder, this does not effect the quality it just merges the 2 files back to a .mpg (be sure to choose VCD for the job in Xing). I don't know if any other multiplexing software works because I've only used Xing.
Burn the .mpg to CD as normal and hey presto a working VCD with no sync problems!
If you cant follow these instructions email me!
    Tib try this method m8!

JazzyDaz, so multiplexing in TMPEGEnc is broken? I'll give the Xing Encoder a try and post my experiences in this forum.

  8. Tib, I don't think multiplexing is broken in TMPGEnc, but I believe TEMPGEnc causes the sync problem on many DVD players.
As for Xing that was an encoder a friend was using with DVD squeezer and his VCD's worked fine on my player. It is possible that any multiplexing software works but I am reluctant to try others when this one works fine.
