  1. FFMPEGX (sound out of synch, low quality); Demux, re-encode audio, remux, convert, but ended up with serious synch problems (again!!), I even tried just dumping the file into Toast 6 (Mac OS Error). Of course I tried QT Mutator and in quicktime it synched OK, but the final VCD was out of synch. These files play beautifully in VLC. Help!!

    mpeg2works? does it have problems?
quicktime (after doctoring it) and exporting to video cd does it have problems?

if its a downloaded divx movie you have to understand that there could be some inherent problem with the file itself.

VLC is way to forgiving of a media player to say well jeeze it plays in vlc so it must have no problems.

    What about :

Process through DIVA,get intact video file.
Extract audio only through ffmpeg using .mp3 settings

use QT Pro to add scaled video to audio and save file as
    Toast compatible mpeg?

I've done before on [crap] MPEG files from Usenet...
    this procedure works good.
