Well i'm new to DVD burning and i have some weird problems.
First of all my pc is a P4 2.4Ghz with 512MB RAM
These are the programs i have used:
DVD Decrypter v.3.1.7.0 (for unlocking the originals)
DVD Shrink Beta 5 (For shrinking)
CopytoDVD v. 2.3.7.233 (for Burning)
Nero 6.0.0.19 (for burning)
As for viewing the DVDs i use PowerDVD v4 and in my home cinema
i have a Pioneer DV525(Its a little old but runs everything)
So what's the problem?
First i use the Decrypter to write all the files to HDD.Then i use the
Shrink to bring it down to 4400.I always re-author with only the movie,
one audio track and 2 subtitles. Also if the movie is too big i cut some
of the ending titles too.DVDShrink says 4464 but i prefer to keep
it a little lower at 4400 so i wont have any problems. Then i use CopytoDVD for burning at 2X always. So far so good. The quality of the backup is superb without any problems at all.
The only problem i have is that in the last few seconds the movie freezes.
This happens on my pc and my dvd player on the same frame. When i tried it on my dvd player it did weird sounds like it was trying to read the
disk but couldn't.I have burned 6 movies all with the same problem. Also i
tried to save the files of the DVD-R to HDD again with Decrypter but in the last 1MB it tries to write but it cant. The last few seconds it will freeze.
This is not a problem of a full disk because i burned Charlie's Angels which is only 3,8GB and i had the same problem so its something else.
My next thought was to use different media.I was using the Sentinel 4.7GB DVD-R.This time i tried the TDK 4.7GB DVD-R.But i had the exact same results. The last thing i could think of was to try and burn with Nero.I had heard some bad comments about it for DVD burning although i use it for my cds.So i said i would give it a try.Same settings.2X writting.Well now its more weird than it was before. In my DVD player it runs fine without any problems.I can FF and rewind with no problems and most important the movie doesnt freeze any more at the end.The dvd player stops normaly without freezes. When i tried PowerDVD the movie plays
fine but when i try to jump to a different part it says it encountered an error.I read in this forum that this problem is resolved with PowerDVD v5 so as long as its not a Nero problem i dont care.To tell you the truth i dont care much since i watch my movies on my home cinema but it is still a problem.I have burned only 1 copy with nero so i dont know if i was lucky or if its better than CopytoDVD.It seems to be a problem of CopytoDVD.What is wrong with CopytoDVD?
If anyone can help me i would be very thankful.

well the last few seconds freezing sounds like your file is too big. try shrinking the movie down to 4300 or even 4200 and see if that helps.

If that doesn't work....try different media. Sometimes when u use cheapo media, it will go bad on u towards the end of the movie. When u burn, compress the files to no larger than 4472mb.

I have used TDK DVD-R and i dont think its cheap media.
Anyway now i use Nero 6.0.0.19 and i dont have any problems. My DVD player will run dvdrs perfectly without any freezes with nero.
Its weird because i have heard other people using DVD decrypter,DVD Shrink and CopytoDVD without having any problems.
But since my problem is solved with Nero i dont care much.Although i threw about 10 DVDs in the trash bin now i am happy that i finally found a way that works for me. -
glad to hear you have a workaround. just a note i use the trio of apps and have no problems with the max size Shrink produces (4464). the only thing copytodvd fails at is writing to rws...it can't. called vso and tech said updating to lastest ver will solve problem (2.3.10 at that time; i have 2.3.7). did not update because nero 5.5.10.42 burns rws just fine.

You are doing a lot of unnescary steps, DVDDecryptor isn't need to rip. Then you re-author (when you could have ripped main only in DVDDecryptor).

. IF the file size is larger than what can fit on a dvdr (plus he only wanted 1 audio and 2 subs) and Shrink is used to transcode it will only accept the files for analysis if the rip was complete (all files), ELSE you will need IFOEdit to reconstruct the ifo files, reset audio language, etc.for main movie only rips. seems ripping all files for Shrink is a tad easier...though certainly not necessary
. plus decrypter is faster and a more reliable ripper than shrink. not to mention the contradiction in the quote........just messing with you :P. and only because you haven't answered my requests (5 times) for the workaround to what you cited as a way to create navigational menus when re-authoring with shrink. maybe you were just overly "enthusiastic" in your replies (at least twice) to other posts, huh

I have seen this problem before when i remove credits also. though when you rip the disc with dvd decryptor you do not need to rip all the files just the main movie files. second you can strip the movie in ifoedit and remove vob ids, subtitles and audio with it as well then go back and get vts sectors. back to the freeze issue, i found you need to edit the video_ts and have it loop the movie to the begining. you can get guides off ifoedits page i believe, unless the pulled them. i will pop a video_ts open and look for the command line later today if you can not find how to loop it. i noticed that it only happens with video that i have removed credits in. so if ya can remove enough audio and subs to get buy this then do that. Sorry for the limited help i havent removed or cut video credits in a couple years to remember the vts structor of the top of my head

In closing I use DVD Decrypter and InstantCopy 8 (about $35 online). Nothing compares to the quality of IC 8, there is more to video than bitrates, and whatever IC 8 does to squeeze things down (it takes a little longer than most), the results are great. No reason to try to drop titles and such (there are options to drop things and of course 'Movie Only' mode, but you must rip the entire DVD with Decrypter). A few MB's here and there makes no difference to InstantCopy. Give the trial a shot, you may like it. -
OK let me say it one last time.
CopytoDVD was the real problem i had.
I had tried with or without the ending credits cut, with TDK or any other media,i tried writting at lower speeds,i tried burning less data than it could actually hold.NOTHING WORKED.It kept freezing at the end of the film.
My problem is solved with Nero and i am very happy about it.I dont know what CopytoDVD is doing diffirent than Nero but all i know is that i have burned 4 DVDRs with nero without having a single problem. My DVD player stops at the end without problems now.
It seems like CopytoDVD is doing something wrong at the end of the burning.I dont know what it could be.
