Ok guys, please go easy on me! I am a newbie and do not know so much about backing up DVD's.
I was looking at Clone DVD and it sounds pretty good. I read a few post on here about it and they said you need AnyDVD or a Decrypter to get rid of the copy guard protection. However, version 2.0 of Clone DVD was just released and on the site it states that it is able to copy "copy guarded" DVD's. Now I am not sure if this is true, due to the fact the other version stated the same thing! I do not have a DVD Burner (yet), as of now my wife and I back up our DVD's using a Toshiba Home Recorder which of course only copies the video and has stereo sound. I am interested in actually copieing the menus and all as well. I downloaded and tryed the trial version of Clone DVD 2.0 but because I do not have a DVD Burner I was unable to burn the movie. But it did in fact copy it to my hard drive with no problems in about 35 minutes! When done a folder opened called I believe, VIDEO.TS and I was able to play the movie by clicking on an icon with WIN DVD on it. It worked great and had all the menus and extras.
My biggest questions are, did in fact Clone DVD copy the movie with no problems, and if I burned it to a DVD would it have worked? Or.. did it copy it to my hard drive with no problems, but if I went to copy it to a DVD-R would it not have worked due to copy guard protection?
Also if I wanted to copy the movie to a DVD-R, would I just select the VIDEO.TS folder and burn it? Or would I open that folder and select all items and burn them?
Im sorry so many questions, but as I stated I am a newbie and alot better at using a Home DVD Recorder than using software. However, if this actually works I may change so I can start getting the menus and extras when I back up our home DVD collection! :P

The CloneDVD you are referring to is NOT the real CloneDVD. They happened to get the www.clonedvd.com website first and are offering something similar. If you want the REAL CloneDVD go here...

Yes, you will need AnyDVD or DVD Region-Free if you want to bypass the CSS-encryption. You can always download DVDDecrypter (free) and rip the video files to your hard drive and then use CloneDVD.
Hope this helps, the newest CloneDVD version is 1.3.11.2 -
NEUROTCH69, another option would be for you to try DVD Shrink v3.0b5.
It is free (no spyware, nagware,...) and very powerful while being user-friendly.
...would I just select the VIDEO.TS folder and burn it?
If you want to get the feel of it before you give it a go, please view the following guides:
http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php
Even though I'd advise you to use v3.0b5, I'd suggest you view all the guides to get familiar with DVD Shrink. -
WOW thanx for the help, I will have to give it a shot! But are you serious about the Clone DVD Slumpey? I downloaded 2.0 from http://www.clonedvd.net/

Buncha bastards, stealing the name.
There is a similar problem with CDRWin.
Golden Hawk makes CDRWin, they're currently on version 3.9 (although there was a 4.0 beta for a while).
Then some company in Germany starts making a product called... CDRWin 5.0... and claims to have the exclusive European rights to the name and that they bought it from Golden Hawk and now own the program and all rights to it.
Of course this is ludicrous, it's not even close to the same program. But they sold a lot of copies to people who then got very angry but couldn't get their money back.

Dang, that sucks because it makes people all confused when they use the same exact name. It does explain why the menu on 2.0 looked different than all the examples I saw!

Nope, it was a trial version which actually worked pretty good. Just one click of a button and the DVD was on my hard drive rather fast

It's not a TERRIBLE program. I just dislike misrepresentation.
