Hi...I'm trying to convert from avi to mpg and there is video but no sound when I try to preview it..I tried to use Virtualdub to convert the avi audio to a wav...but it still did not work...what's wrong here? Thanks so much in advance for the information! And also..am I on the right track in doing this in order to make a cd to play on my dvd player? That's my ultimate goal in doing all of this...so I hope I'm doing it right..Thanks again!

  3. In preview mode tmpgenc does not let you hear the sound. It sounds like everything is working ok. This should play in your dvd player as long at it is vcd compatiable.

First make sure your AVI has sound. Do this by playing the AVI with Windows Media Player.

Then simply just encode it with TMPGEnc. There's a good tutorial on how to encode to VCD (which you want).

Then burn it with Nero. And play it in your DVD Player (should be compatible =)

Thank you both for the help! But what is Nero? can't I just make it with the TMPGEinc? or is there another step after that?

And also...do I need to keep on converting the audio to a wav file...or can I use the avi file for the audio? thanks so much!!

  7. If your video file the *.avi has audio on it, meaning if you play the avi in windows media player and you hear sound it means that the avi has audio encoded on it already. so when you encode for mpeg the path of the avi file should appear in the video and sound path bar in tmpgenc. nero is burning software like roxio but better use it to burn vcd
