I'm capturing VHS tapes using my old Pinnacle DC30+ on Windows XP. I have used both AMCAP (problems with audio sync) and Virtual VCR (no apparent problems here).

I capture in "Full Resolution" and "Both Fields" and "TV Crop" resulting in 720x540.

When playing the file in Windows Media Player 9 it shows OK, but when I load it into VirtualDub I see it in half-height, ie 720x270 (i think!).

If I save it using VDub it then shows up in MediaPlayer too as half-size.

Why is this and what do I do wrong??

    Thanks for any replies!

This was a bug in VirtualDub with its internal MJPEG decoder, which is used if there is no external one. I installed PicVideo and then the problem was gone. I'm surprised and a little disappointed that noone knew this (or wanted to point it out) since it is a documented bug in a well-known piece of software.

Hi, I know I havent been able to answer your question, but I have the same capture card, but cannot get it to work under XP Pro. Can you help me out and explain how you got yours to work with XP? What drivers do I need etc.

btw I have skipped the DC30 now. Software is just plain rotten. I'm now capturing with Hauppage PVR-350. Works a lot better.

Thanks for the reply, it does not seem worth while persueing the drivers if it does not work very well then,

Thank you for the answer, I hope you capture happily with your new capture device.
