  1. Hello, I went to see "Master and Commander" and although it was a good movie there was a problem. Every 30 sec. during one 15 min scene there was a quick flash of 5 or 6 orange/yellow dots in the shape of the letter L.
What the hell is the MPAA doing? It was clearly visable and distracting!
Has anyone else seen these? Does anyone have any info on what the point of them are?

    Thanks

  2. HEHEH sounds like the Cinema is buying bootleg copies instead.......hehehe jk. That is really weird though. If this is some kind of new protection scheme then that is lame. I wonder if anyone else has seen this movie and these L shapes.

  3. Was it an advanced screening or some other early showing of the movie? If so the individual prints may have been watermarked to identify any copies that show up on the internet.

However if it was a general session then that is very weird indeed for a wide opening movie. Perhaps the mark was from a piece of equipment the cinema used? Maybe someone with projectionist experience could prove/disprove this theory?

I am thinking it may have been cigarette burns that you see commonly in bad prints of movies and coincidently formed the 'L' shape.

From the previews of the movie, it doesn't look like you missed much by focusing on something else

As much as a despise Russel Crowe as an actor everything I have heard about the movie itself has been positive. Personally though I think I'll wait for the DVD before seeing it.

  6. I didn't like it, they tried too hard to be another Discovery/N.Geographic
channel when they dwell on the Galapogas isle

  7. pacmania is right on track

these things have been dubbed "mpaa dots". they usually put a letter composed of brownish/redish dots, usually a letter in certain parts of the movie, certain places in the picture. they are being used to identify the loction where illegal versions of the movie are popping up on the internet are being filmed.

this would be okay, except they are very noticable and kind of distracting.
