Compress Avi Movies

I have a two cd movie and I would like to know how or if its possible to join the two avi's and recompress the avi into one cd?

two cd movie joined = 1.36 gb is it possible to reencode the avi to achive a smaller file size without losing the quality.

The reason for all this is when I use TMPGEnc to encode to Svcd I have to use three cds to retain quality. I've tried VCD and most of the other formats but Svcd is alot better.

In a word....No!

Re-encoding will result in quality loss and reducing the bitrate will result in quality loss. You can re-encode with Virtualdub and use the same codec if you want to try, some 700 Mb avi's aren't too bad.
