  1. I am having synch problems but not all the time.
System is Pentium 4 2.66Gig/MSI mobo with Intel chipsets/Realtech AC97 onboard sound/20Gig primary HDD/40Gig secondary drive (7200rpm) used only for capture/Pinnacle PCTV Pro with software updated to latest version.
Sometimes captures are ok but other times the video & sound are out of synch.
Please can anyone ofer any advice on this.
I have not been particularly impressed with the Pinnacle hardward/software having previously used an old Hauppauge tv card in another computer (but not for capturing) - I know the Pinnacle stuff is not liked by many people and am thinking of buying another Hauppauge product.
Is there anything anyone can suggest.
I have Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 Platinum installed and if capture is done with this similar problems occure-obviously as the Pinnacle stuff is still the capture equipement.
Lastly can anyone tell me if its possible to do anything about an out of synch capture as i've now lost a film my children wanted.
Very many thanks for your help all.

I've had this exact same problem with some of my captures - depending on my source.

What I ended up doing is extracting the audio from the video using VirtualDub, then loading the wav file in to GoldWave, and changing the playback rate, then resampling. There is a really good guide here: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/140540.php

Instead of using SoundForge ($) I use GoldWave (free), and it has taken care of my sync issues. For some that have been weird sync issues, like the sound going in and out of sync I've had to break the movie up into several pieces and do each section separately, then join them back together. But it works, it just takes a little time, and experimenting.

    Good luck!

A friend of mine captured a laserdisc for me and burned it to DVD-R. Fantastic picture quality, no artifacting, only a few jittery frames here and there. BUT, the sound is a fraction of a second behind the action. Not a gradual thing, mind you, but out of sync the same about during the entire film, from beginning to end. My friend also captured a VHS tape for me, same software, hardware, and process used to capture and burn the LD to DVD-R, but no sync problems with that. Is it possible that, because it's an LD, that's the problem? Also, if the sound's out of sync the whole time, and not gradual, will resampling fix it? What I want to do is just jog the whole soundtrack to the left, so to speak. Have it start a fraction of a second earlier, and not speed it up or slow it down. How would I do this?

If it's already on a DVDR you will need to rip the DVD to your HD, demultiplex the video and audio, remove a small chunk of the audio (the length of the sync problem - i.e. if the audio is out of sync by half a second, trim a half second off) from the beginning of the audio, and then encode the audio to whatever you need (AC3, MPEG audio, whatever), and multiplex it back in with the video. I'm sure there are a number of other ways, but that way should be pretty easy - I've done similar things with AVI files that have had that problem.
