When you run an AVI file through AVI2VCD , at he end which file is the encoded video and which is the encoded audio.
I ran a 750 mb file through and nothing adds up close to that.
Can't get anything to burn properly so that it will play in my DVD player, but nero does the same original AVI okay. Am I doing something wrong in encoding?

If I understand correctly, you wish to create DVD compliant files from an .avi file.
I use TMPGEnc Plus to convert the .avi to a .m2v and a .wav file (guides for this you can find on this site), and then author them (convert them to .vob, .bup and .ifo files) using TMPGEnc DVD author. You can burn to DVD directly with DVD author, or using Nero. Make sure you drag and drop the entire file set into the "VIDEO TS" folder when using Nero.
this should do the trick.
