I want to upload the soundtrack from NBA LIVE 2004 to my mp3 player, but all of the tracks are in asf format. I have tried a ton of apps to try to convert it but none of them work. I am thinking maybe ea games encode teh soundtrack some how so no one would be able to rip it off. PLease help me, maybe some one done it before.

  2. Be more specific, exactly what were some of the programs you have tried, why didnt they work or what errors did you get, etc. All i can say is have you tried asf tools, thats worked fine for me in the past.

I have used AsfTools v3.1 and it tells me
With asf tools I tried converting it wav.

    Opening C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\NBA LIVE 2004\audio\music\xmsong2.asf
    Invalid Header Obj ID
    --->> Error while convering
    File Closed.

VirtualDub 1.3c tells me that it cannot determine the type, when i try importing the files.

I have tried a few others and none of them worked, jrbling which programs did you use.

I am thinking maybe i cant use virtualdub, because I am doing something wrong. I try importing by OPEN VIDEO FILE, but my asf is not a video file. Maybe there is some other way to import.

  5. Try changing the extension to .WMA or .WMV.If that doesn't work use TMPGEnc (w/lame.exe)->drop it in the Audio source box and go to settings->run(takes less than 30 seconds).Last resort is to use Camstudio to capture and TMPGEnc to convert to MP3.

I tried both of those methods before and it didnt work, when I tried importing it into tmpegnc it tells me "can't open or unsupported".

    Whats w/lame.exe

Could it be that I can't open asf files because I don't have some codec thats needed?

  7. "Whats w/lame.exe "

It's the Lame encoder...I would use the Camstudio and TMPGEnc method.

  8. There are asf codecs, that may be a problem, you can find one in the tools sections on this site.
when you were trying with asf tools, you mentioned you tried converting to wav, did you also try the 're-encode' option? 'Convert to Wav' will not work in every case.

I dont deal too much with asf so asf tools is the only program ive used.

Re encodig doesn't work either. It shows
    Reading source file information...
    Invalid Header Obj ID. Exiting.
--> Can't read source file information.

  10. Get a ps2 movie player and play those files in that straight from the dvd game to see if they are playable .pss files. Just use the all files setting for them to show up.
