G'Day!

I've been following the DVR market for about a year now.

One thing that I'm finding bewildering is that none of the mainstream players (Pioneer, Sony, Toshiba, and Panasonic) offer digital audio inputs.

Considering that DVR's are being touted as the VCR's of the digital generation, why aren't they geared to be used entirely in conjunction with other digital sources. As I see it, if I want to connect my satellite receiver or my digital cable box to a DVR, I am compelled to connect it to an RCA (analogue) composite audio connector. This eliminates the opportunity to have a broadcast with digital audio recorded in a pure digital format to my DVR.

As an aside, I am glad to see that the manufacturers are resurrecting the addition of hard drives in their DVR offerings, as well as providing the option of DVD+/-RW. The exclusion of the latter is the biggest knock I have against Panasonic models

BTW, very good forum. Have been following it for a while.

Take care, all.
