I'm planning to buy a Prolink Pixelview HD. Would like to capture video using my the S-video input from my VCR. (I think tv-card tuners are not the best.)
I would like to capture in full (768x576) resolution mpeg-2 in 8 Mbit/sec without dropped frames. What processor do You recommend me for such software based mpeg-2 encoding? What about software (Windvr, PowerVCR II, PowerDirector, NanoDVR, Virtualdub)?
Now I have Hauppauge PVR, but I would go with better processor + simple tuner for better results. Am I right?
Thanks for help.

If you intend to capture straight to MPEG-1/MPEG-2 then you simply cannot beat the Hauppauge PVR assuming you have one of the internal PCI versions (such as the 250 or 350 model). I've heard some bad things though about the external USB version but you didn't say what version you have so ...Originally Posted by perempe

Well that means you have the 250 or 350 right?Originally Posted by perempe
Well that is as good as you can get for MPEG-2 capture unless you blow money on a stand alone DVD recorder.

PVR-pci is the name of the product. I think thatn it is the same as 250, but has FM radio. (It's not pvr-350.)
Would be better to go with a DV codec ( - 1.2 GHz is said to be enough, as I have 1700+ now)? Recoding a 8Mbit/sec mpeg-2 has nearly the same result with TMPGEnc 3.5 Mbit/sec. -
After reencoding, of course.
So, I mean that the source 8Mbit/sec mpeg-2 (recorded with Hauppauge PVR-pci) is not better than the 3.5-4 Mbit reencoded.
