  1. Of the Windoze platform I'd rather use 2000. XP is gone too far.

I was checking out Mac OSX just a couple days ago and it's OK. I'm still reserving my judgement on it because it's done some things I don't like.

Linux, of course, is my OS of choice. Stability far beyond any Windoze version, no virii in any way shape or form, and so much more powerful than other OS's.

  2. I hope no one takes too much offense at this:

I find that it's very common for people to make decisions on the "Best OS" based on the fact that they've only used Windoze before. Does this seem silly to anyone else?

That's like asking, "Who's your favortite food? chedder cheese, pepperjack cheese, limburger cheese, or velveeta?" They're all cheese! What if I hate cheese?

It's called a loaded question. There is no actual choice involved. Now, if you were curious on what our favorite Windoze OS is ... that's a different story. But that's not how the topic was worded. Actually, I rather liked Windows 3.1. It was 100 times more stable than Win95 or anything there after. It was customizable too ... it didn't force you to use what Microsoft thinks you want. It was limited ... but not many OS's weren't at that time (except UNIX).

I do recognize that Microsoft was a factor in getting a PC in just about every home (including all 4 that I have). But the market was going in that direction regardless of who was in front to get the most profit out of it. If Microsoft had done the OS thing right I would be a happy Windoze user ... but they screwed things up starting with Lose95.

I hope that, instead of fighting the OS revolution that Linux has started, Microsoft follows the market trend and puts thier massive financial and marketing power BEHIND the opensource movement ... that would impress me.
