  1. This pisses me off...

The ******* thing works JUST FINE with the old memorex media (non 4x). So, I go out and buy a spindle of Memorex 4x (because my drive is rated 4x) and out of 4 discs, 2 have failed. There should be NO REASON for this! Anyone have any ideas?

CMC Magnetics...very inconsistent product. If you have +R, try the Memorex 4X (Ricoh Japan) media. Should work much better for you. For -R, I'm sticking with Maxell 2X as I've never had a bad burn with them. My Panasonic E80 standalone will work with the Memorex 4X -R but you have to remember that it's burning those at 1X, which is not what you want to do...

  3. Thanks for the info... I have only been doing this for one month and burned over 50 -r using the 2x memorex discs and could not find any 2x discs at a reasonable price as the 4x memorex. I expected to be getting the same (actually better) product due to the 4x burn rate. I even dropped the burn rate down to 2x in nero and still crashed. Sigh...

The last batch of 2X Memorex DVD-R I used had a Prodisc media ID. These were much better than the CMC Magnetics 2X that I had before...

  5. Well, is there a way of knowing who manufactures the disc before you buy them, cause once you buy them, you appear to be screwed if they are bad...

Update on the totals now... 10 discs burned 6 coasters now....

Any other dwu14a users having this problem?

  6. Your right, CMC Magnetics is so inconsistent!

    I didn't have any coasters with 3 cases of Memorex's 10 pack of DVD-R's (4x speed). However, when I bought a spindle of Memorex's 10 pack of DVD-R's (2x speed), I had 4 out of 10 coasters.

Half way through a burn I would get an error message in Nero or when it was finalizing it would just stop

So people know, I bought the spindle of Memorex's 10 pack of DVD-R's (2x speed) this past weekend at CompUSA.
