  1. Hey people,

I have a problem with getting my subtitles in EncoreDVD. I know it has 3 formats it supports.

    Some text file.
    FAB Images Script.
    Caption Inc. Script.

With the first one i have problems. Encore freezes when i build my project, or it gives an undefined error.

Could someone tell me how to convert subs to FAB or Caption Inc.? Are those also just text files? Or are they linked to bitmaps or something?

I hope someone can help me out here, thanx in advance!

  2. You may want to read the support files for Encore on the adobe website.

Hmm, $50 ain't bad. I wonder if it'll be easier than making them in Encore. The ones I've created from within Encore have worked fine for me, though I seldom use subtitles in my productions. Customers either don't want them or can't afford them. Or maybe it's because I made them a prohibitively expensive option

If someone gives that app a run with Encore and it works well drop us a line and let us know!

Did u used the text file with a format like this:

    1 00:00:01:0 00:00:02:0 Some text here.

Becouse it works fine when i use a file with like 10 subtitles... but when i want to use subtitles for a complete movie (sometimes upto 1000 subtitles) it jsut freezes when building the DVD.

No, I authored them directly from Encore just by writing text right on the preview screen and setting keyframes. There have been a lot of people who have reported problems with imported subtitles freezing Encore when compiling. So far I think this was limited to imported text files rather than other formats so that's why I'm waiting to see what others have done. Doing them in Encore isn't so tought, but a little time consuming. I would assume that other subtitling apps pretty much use the same method as Encore's, so why not just do them there?

I think the most subpics I used was maybe 100-200 or so in a 2 hour vid. Is there any CPU/HDD/RAM usage during the hang or does everything stop? It may just be it has to chew on stuff longer toward the end of the film. I sometimes give my supposedly hung app up to a few hours to see if anything happens with it. Worth a try at least...

  7. i would like to say that i also have problems with subtitles. but to solve ur sutbtitle problems i suggest u try SUBTITLE WORKSHOP. it has a save setting for Adobe Encore DVD.

My question for everyone is that i have 2 audios and 2 subtitle tracks. the audios are interchangeable during play but i cant seem to get the subtitles to work. since one of the audio tracks are in english i only need 1 subtitle track. so i placed that on. and made a blank sub track which doesnt seem to work. does anyone have any ideas?

I could never get most of Encore to work. Subs included. I've been long convinced the software sucks.

With encore the subs first entry must be the number of the sub. This can be any number but they have to be consecutive. so if you enter:
    1 00:00:01:0 00:00:02:0 text
the first number "1" is the number of your subtitle. If you number these consecutively then you will not have a problem. The problem is most programs dont do this for you and you end up with encore confusion. There is an user written app on the adobe encore forum website that will number your subtitles consecutively and also put them in the correct format from fab but you will have to search for it. I spent hours renumbering subtitles and then found out this app could do it all in less than a second.
