  1. I've been trying to convert some *.avi movies that I have to VCD format to play on my stand alone DVD player. However the last 5 times that I've tried converting films they have ended up being 2.39 Gig files with no sound. I'm using TMPBEnc (the latest release) to convert them, and this one has me completely stumped. Anyone got any thoughts as to why this is happening?

Gimmie a yell if more info is needed, I'm not exactly sure what would have a bearing on the problem.

I think I know what the problem is.. it has something to do with the mp3 sound as the audio..

This is what u do.. get virtual dub open the avi file, then go file>>> save wav>> save it as audio.mp3 and under save as file type change it to "All Files".. oke it will extract the sound now, take roughly 1-3 minutes..

Now open the mp3 file in winamp and hit stop, hit CTRL+P a box will appear and u have to change the selected option to The wav diskwritter one, click ok to the box and choose a destination for the large wav file to go (just choose the the folder where the movie is)now hit play and it will take about 5 minutes to convert the mp3 audio into wav....

Now go to TmpGencoder and load up the avi as the video soucre and the biggass wav file as the audio.. Now you will have a regular 1gig mpg file with sound in sync..

and u cut the file in half as normal..

    Hi there!

Be sure to set up the audio processing in Virtualdub properly before you extract the wav file. Under the 'Audio' menu, change the setting from 'Direct Stream Copy' to 'Full Processing Mode'. This will ensure that you get an uncompressed wav file.

This particular point gave me trouble for a while until I realized that without that setting my wav files were still compressed audio. Once I set the processing mode my file sizes were about 650Mb per hour of video; which, when you think about it, makes complete sense.

    Good luck!
