  1. This has happened now with the last 2 DvDs that I have tried converting to AVI, using Mencoder. When the process is finished, in the Terminal Window, the only message I get is that there is a Bus Error. Doesn't say anything else. I try to open the AVI, and it won't open, once again I get another error telling, me that I can't open the file. I have no idea what this can be. I am hoping that one of you people with expertise, out there would have an idea. I only have one idea. Would running other programs or downloads interfer with Mencoders processing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers, Carol

This might be totally useless, but in the Classic MacOS days, a Bus error was due to lack of RAM, either total, or just allocated to a specific app. How much do you have now? With MacOS X's VM system, however, that is highly doubtful. I would hazard a guess that you don't have enough HD space to rip the DVD and convert it. You should probably have about 2x the DVD's total size (or the size of the main video track) free on your HD, and preferably your startup disk, in order to process the files. That's all a wild guess, though, and someone with more experience with mencoder might be of more help.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."
