  1. first off, let me start by saying !!!

i'm ready to kill my PC and DVD player both!!! For some reason, the last 7 or so DVDs i've burned i'm getting "C:13:00" popping up on my stand alone DVD player. this is my second batch of RITEK 4x discs. and i'm in the middle of my second pack when it started. but they work fine in my DVD player in my PC.???? ANY IDEAS????

i was sitting at my pc while the movie was buring, using INTERVIDEO DVD COPY, and when i looked up i thought it said 30%. and less than a minute later, out pops the DVD. when a DVD is closing, does it give a %?? if so, then ok, that's no problem. if not, the CD couldn't have finished 70% of movie, then CLOSED... i don't know...i think i'm just so frustrated that i can't think straight!

i guess my question is....does anybody know what "C:13:00" means? i have a SONY DVP-S300 player.

    HELP!!!!!!!

i had the DVDs in the garbage and then i decided i better at least try em on the PC!! i guess they're only HALF coasters!!!

  2. Ah, the C:13:00 error code.

There's actually a Class-Action lawsuit that is in process over this problem; see http://www.bigclassaction.com/class_action/sony.html.

Depending on what website you read, the problem occurs when a fuse on the Drive Assembly PCB malfunctions. In many cases, by bypassing the fuse you solve the problem. The 'problem' is the result of an under-rated fuse that blows/shorts because too much current passes through it.

Among the many websites detailing this problem is http://www.benmorris.net/dvd/, with a detailed description of the 'bypass' procedure that will correct the situation. I have read on other websites that rather than an under-rated fuse, the problem actually lies in the firmware, which commands the unit to enter into a slight overcurrent situation on discs with lower reflectivity levels.

Interestingly enough, http://www.iwaynet.net/~nesda/SonyDVD.html recommends replacement of the System Control ROM (IC601) with the latest version of the same IC. Latest version of a System Control ROM? Sounds a hell of a lot like firmware to me!

  5. Buy a new DVD player. And don't be afraid to buy a Who-Is-That? brand from Wal-Mart. Those $50 DVD players do a pretty good job if all you want is something to play the myriad of formats that can be burned/phase-changed onto a disc.

  6. I have a Sony DVP-S500 player and I get "C:13:00" whenever I try to play the cheaper generic DVD-Rs, like Xtremes. I thought it might of been the way I was backing up, but they all worked in my Toshiba, on my PC and PS2. I just bought some Optimum DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs from Staples that are 10 for $6.50 and they work great. However, the DVD+Rs don't play on my Toshiba.

If anyone is interested in the 4 10 packs of Optimum DVD+Rs just let me know. I can't use them. Any offer would be considered.

  7. I'm in the same situation with a Sony NS715P . Just bought two spindles, only to receive the error "C 13 60", which I assume is the same as "C 13 00".

What media works well with the Sony's?

  8. JaketheSnake, if you can find the Optimum 10 pack of DVD-Rs that Staples has for $10 grab it. I just backed up T3 and it played perfect on my Sony DVP-D500D

  9. I used to get this error often but found that every time that it occurred, the cause was a 'flaw' in the DVD structure after stripping, re-encoding, reauthoring or burning.. very difficult to pinpoint where in the process i was screwing up..

For example, i would back up the same DVD using 2 different methods, i.e., manually, using various apps vs. one-click solution apps.. I would get the C:13 error ONLY when using the former and rarely, if ever, using one-click apps.. ==> But after practicing and improving the manual process, i rarely get the error anymore..

Oh, btw, i have a Sony DVP NS700P

  10. Hey all!

just wanted to pass the word that i've canned my SONY dvd for the ever so popular (sarcasm) CYBERHOME DVD CH-300s!!!

I watched 2 DVD BACKUPS (Hulk, Matrix:Reloaded) without problems. The media i use are RITEK 4x (www.supermediastore.com).

for any first time buyers out there shopping for a DVD player...head on over to your local RADIO SHACK! the machine itself is only 9" x 9"!!! and the retail price of $49.99 is hard to beat!!!

No, i don't work for CYBERHOME or RADIOSHACK!

Thanks all for help in finding the c:13:00 information!!

    angelog22,

I fixed my Sony DVP-S560D player following the guide from this web site:

    http://www.benmorris.net/dvd

I ripped the fuse and replace it with the thin wire.
And now it plays DVDs and CDs.

I got the C:13:00 error on a couple of DVD-Rs I burned that were greater than 4.3GB. It took me a while to figure this out because a DVD-RW of the same project would play just fine?????

  13. Thanks Kabanero,

But someone already referred me to that site. For one, i have a different model, and two, he indicates that his has gone back again. rather than waste my time, i just bought another one.

i'll keep the sony in a second room until it completely poops out.

    Thanks again!
