  1. I have some AVIs that are widescreen format that I want to convert to mpeg for burning as a VCD. Problem is when I convert them using TMPGEnc they get streched in the mpeg format.

How do I insert black bars or whatever I need to do so that the new mpeg format looks like a correct widescreen?

when you are in the wizard......in the third screen (the one after you select the file) there is a button called advanced at the bottom.

    click on it

click on the second tab and choose fullscreen (keep aspect ratio)

It is automatically defaulted to full screen which is why it is getting stretched out

  3. I don't use the wizard but the settings are pretty much the same:

Click on settings (in bottom right corner)
    Click on the advance tab
Choose 'source aspect ratio: 1:1 (VGA)'
Choose video arrange method to: Full screen (keep aspect ratio)

This will cause TMPGenc to use the full width of the video, center it, and then letter box as necessary to perserve the aspect ratio of the source (to what every height you selected).
