  1. Im in the process of authoring a DVD using TMPGEnc DVD Author when i selct the 'output' button i get an error message saying the combined bitrate of the clip exceeds the upper limit for a standard DVD, it says it cannot guarantee it'll play on a DVD player and to check the maximum supported bitrate of my player. I was just wondering if this is likely to be a problem, do most DVD players have a limit of 9.848Mbps or will it play on most DVD players?

    Thanks

That's Video+Audio, and it's an odd rate. It's supposed to be 9.8 Mbps sustained forever, but it's also a peak. It's based on the minimum speed your DVDplayers drive can do. Try it on an RW and see how it plays? My player isn't too sensitive to bitrates.

  3. It plays fine on my DVD player but im wondering how much of an issue this would be. In general would this be a problem for most DVD players?

  4. As a general rule, for recordable DVD media, it is often advised to keep the max bitrate somewhere below the DVD specification. The reason for this being that most DVD players find recordable DVD media 'harder' to read (more errors and retries) due to the lower reflectivity of the disks. If you keep the max Video bitrate to around 8K and audio around 384 or less you should be fine.

  5. How do i reduce the bitrate? I used DVD decryptor on a DVD of mine and its bitrate was 9800 plus the audio taking over the limit. How do i reduce the bitrate?

You set the bitrate when you encode the mpeg. How you set it depends on what encoder you used. If you acquired your mpegs already encoded then that is a different matter.

  7. Yeah the mpegs are already encoded at 9800. Plus the audio, when i ty and author with TMPGEnc DVD Author i get an error message saying the combined bit rate exceeds the upper limit of a standard DVD. It plays on my DVD player but i was just wondering how much of a problem could this be with other players? And why is it over the limit? Id dint change the files at all they where ripped at 100% using decryptor so why are they over the limit?

  8. The total combined bitrate for video+audio+subtitles+overhead (navigation info etc) on a DVD should not exceed 10.08Mps. It seems to me that TmpGenc DVD author may be being a little conservative in its warning level and you are probably OK.

  9. Yeah thats what i figured as other authoring software doesnt give the same warnings. Thanks for your help
