So I've demoed or owned a lot of DVD2dvdr apps and noticed that most of them have occasional breakups/artifacts. This is fine most of the time but sometimes it's distracting (especially in action movies)- any idea which ones have the most artifact free picture quality? Also, I noticed that Instant Copy 8 does NOT have any artifacts in QUALITY MODE.. Does this also apply to "quick" mode as well? How's the quality in quick mode anyways? Does it compare well to dvd2one or dvdShrink? Here are the apps that I've tried with observations (I'm only commenting on artifacting- other quality issues have been covered here):
DVD2One 1.30: Nice and quick but with an almost predictable amount of artifacts (atleast on my 35" sony WEGA)
DVDshrink: I adore this program... I only use deep analysis and have seen one or two artifacts.. Nothing major though
Instantcopy 8: No artifacts on HIGH quality, have not tried "quick" mode... I rarely use this app because high quality mode takes so darn long on my system
CloneDVD: Rarely use this program since I've discovered DVDShrink- how does it compare to the rest (speed: artifacts/quality)?
DVD Xcopy xpress- how does this compare?
Am I missing any note worthy apps? Thanks for all the help!

with regard to your observation of DVD Shrink at what compression level do you usually find no artifacts?
RE: IC8...what is the maximum compression you've used and found no
artifacts?
personally i use D2O on large movies only, for i find it gives better results (less artifacts) than Shrink on my 31" Panasonic FX.
thanks. -

thanks for the clarification. maybe i'll have to try IC. posts from months and months ago seem to support your finding in that for best quality (short of CCE and Scenarist) IC7 (at that time) was a step ahead of the other transcoders. but the negative was the time it took to do it. How long is long to say...do a 2-hour movie in High Quality in IC8? are we talking 10+ hours on your system? and what is your system? thanks. -
Try ReJig. Nice and simple. Qualitywise I don't know (cause I haven't compared) but set it at 65% from a 2 hr 7 GB and I can't tell the difference when I watch it on my TV.

@ freedomsbeat , as far as DVDSRHINK goes..there is no doubt artifacts as a result from using it. I've tested it with various compression ratios and it's pretty slick how it can cause pixelation or artifacts in the background of movies......but that's unacceptible to me. Anything more then a 10% compression and you're better off using something else.
As far as DVD2DVDR goes...you are either mistaking in your observations of artifacts with DVD2DVDR or you have issues with your PC. DVD2DVDR doesn't encode movies..it's an all in one proggy which acts as a GUI/Command director for all other programs needed such as avisynth, DVD2AVI, CCE, IFOEDIT, SCENARIST, PULLDOWN.exe,...etc. CCE is the program doing the encoding...so you either have some issues with your PC or issues with your version of CCE or even your methods. I used to use DVD2DVDR exclusively and there is absolutely no bugs which would cause pixelation or artifacts doing just a main movie.
As a matter of fact..if you read the hundred or so people who responded to the "cool new package DVD2DVDR" thread....you won't find a single other poster who has mentioned issues with artifacts due to using DVD2DVDR. Your problems with artifacts lye somewhere else. -

As far as the question someone had about Instantcopy - it took me 2 hours and 5 min to encode and burn "The Shining" using my P4-2.4B based system (and pioneer a04 drive burning at 2x). -
I backed up X Files series disk with DVD Shrink And IC7/IC8 the compression was 60% in shrink and it definately looked better than Instant copy and takes less time, (And Yes this was in quality mode on IC)
I use shrink all the time now and cant say i notice any artifacts must be me
This is on a Sony 32" Widescreen TV BTW and just going my eye as to what looks betterMAC
