  1. I recently purchased this DVD recorder, but have thought about taking it back. I was wondering what the new firmware upgrade helped? Since they don't even explain what it fixes, I'm not sure if I need it. I have had a couple of issues so far that have came up that makes me think I need to carry it back.

    1. When you get everything setup, record quality, etc. etc. If you go into standby mode and turn it back on, all your settings are back to the default. Does anyone know a way to solve this?

    2. When using OptoDisc DVD+R disc after recording, they sometimes show up as blank disc when I know it has recorded onto it.

    3. Seems like the picture quality is overbright... don't know if it's my TV or what.. but it seems like it makes the picture brighter ... anyone else notice this.

    4. When I finalize a DVD+R... it won't play the first title.. and skips to the second chapter or title on other DVD players.. but on the Apex DRX-9000 it plays ok... not sure if it's the disc I'm using though...

Ummm... does anyone know of anything else wrong with this player.. I'm wondering if I bring it back, what recorder should I trade it for.. any advice?

    Thanks

  2. We'll I had another problem yesterday. I was gonna bring over a home vhs tape with stuff I took with a camcorder a long time ago. I hooked everything up, and started to record. I walked off and let it go. When I get back I try to play the DVD disc back, but nothing, it still says it's a blank disc. So I figured I did something wrong, I took the disc out to see If it had burnt anything to the disc and It was almost completely used. I then tried to play it on my dvd-rom in my computer, but still nothing. So I try it again, this time watching to make sure I stopped the recording process thinking that's what was causing the problem. I was watching it and there was a break between two edits that was a slight gap where there was nothing recorded, just static. I noticed on the screen it said, " this is a copyrighted source" or something like that.. and it still won't record.. I was frustrated and try to call them.. but ended up waiting a little over an hour on the phone while hearing , "Please stay on the line. A representative will be on the line shortly. Your call is important to us." OVER AND OVER,... but ended up hanging up the phone since I guess no one answers the phone... I couldn't find a email address so I'm still in the dark about this.. Oh we'll I got a little bit longer, but It's looking like I'm taking it back soon before I can't... anyone ever had any experience with this unit before.????

  3. Try the firmware update, it helps when recording from tape, if it doesn't work any better return it.

  4. Thanks for the reply Mopar7.. I just upgraded the firmware and it fixed the problem, but I also had to switch to a better DVD+rw brand. The OptoDisc was part of my problem, it just won't record right in the Apex, but then again it tells in the manual which disc they recommend, but it's hard to read the book when I had just bought it and was still in the box. lol. Also I figured out why the screen was brighter with the Apex also, it's because of my television external inputs. I found this out when I hooked my VCR the other day the same way, and the picture was brighter than normal, so maybe I didn't get a lemon. Everything is working great now, but only thing that hasn't been resolved is the Standby mode. If you have your settings set the way you want them to be, when you go into Standby mode and then turn the unit back on, you lose the settings. Like record speed, automarker settings, etc. So I just won't turn it off.. lol...

  5. Hi there..

I have the australian version of the Apex recorder (the Digitrex GKX-9000), and I was wondering if you could tell me how many firmware updates have been released for the US model?

Im also trying to find a way to force a 3-hour record mode, because the poorer quality 4-hour mode, isn't suitable for recording Aussie Rules footy.

    Thanks in advance,
