  1. This is a DVD to DVDR post...

I came across the guide to make a backup of a DVD using DVD2DVD (aka DVD2SVCD)

    http://www.mrbass.org/dvd2dvd/

    TOOLS NEEDED:
DVD2SVCD v1.2.1 B3 (turns into DVD2DVD when you change the input/output to DVD)
CCE SP v2.5 (used for encoding)
Sonic Scenarist v2.6 or v2.7 (used for muxing)

    SPACE NEEDED:
    around 30 GB

    TIME NEEDED:
    3-5 hours

    QUALITY OUTCOME:
    Excellent!

I tried this program last night to backup "Terminator 3" and was extremely impressed with the outcome. It can only backup just the movie, but there are several parts that can be configured. You can choose if you want subtitles, audio tracks, size of DVDR.

Oh yea, it doesn't matter if you have a DVD-9 DVD. It will compress it to fit on a DVD-5 DVD-/+R. "Terminator 3" is a DVD-9 DVD which I successfully made a backup using DVD2DVD (aka DVD2SVCD).

Since it re-encodes the DVD, the quality is better than transcoders like DVD2ONE, CloneDVD, and DVDShrink v3.0 B5.

If you have the time, try it.

    ALTERNATIVE to MOVIE ONLY BACKUP:
Which is better in quality in backing up the Movie only? DVD2One or CloneDVD

  3. I use DVD2SVCD with CCE for all my dvd to dvdr conversions. Movie only but I sometimes rip the Menu's & Extras and encode them separately. As you say, the quality is substantially better than any of the all-in-one quick solutions, in my opinion.

The same basic procedure can also be used for DivX to DVDR as well, so its a very versitile program

I've also written my own Tutorial on how to do it all, check it out at http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?t=26515

I used to use DVD2SVCD contantly. It has awsome results. Now I mainly use Instant Copy in quality mode, with DVD2SVCD as a backup. Matter of fact the guide at the end of my post still contains a walkthorugh for an older version of it. Need to get around to changing that.
