  1. Would having 2 gigs of memory with a pretty fast processor help out any when encoding video and capturing video using a capture card? Will the encoding go any faster?

    If you encode and do other things at the same time(multi tasking), then yes, it will definately help. That said, its not nice to multi task while encoding. Now, you may get some others saying it's ok to do that, but if you hit a snag somehwhere and your pc goes tango uniform and you have to reboot,,,,,guess what.
    If you have some decent ram, 512 avg is good enough. The processor is the main baby. More ram is always good to have though even if not encoding.

  3. I do other things when encoding. Nothing big, just light internet use.

    You'll be ok witht he ram you have, more is good but wont help much encoding. Your chip is the puppy to improve if it's not a p4 2.4 or higher.
