To convert it to an AVI, load it into Virtual Dub mod.

To convert it to a MPEG, load it into Virtual Dub and frameserve it to TMPGEnc. Sometimes TMPGEnc will accept VOBs.

  3. I've always copied the DVD to my HD and changed the .vob extension to a .mpeg extension and imported into my video editing software.

VOB's aren't MPEG's per say. Your software is probably ignoring the extensions and reading the headers (which you didn't change). It's the same way a .ogg file will play when there's no registerd application for the extension.

There's no way to convert a VOB to an MP2/AVI. You have to encode the vob to get an AVI.

  5. First demultiplex using VOBEDIT ->Demux:
If you want MPEG-2 then multiplex .M2V and audio in TMPGEnc.

If you want AVI use then load the .M2V file and your audio into TMPGEnc->File->Output to AVI(make sure to set frame for interleave to "1") .
