    8) I have the trial versions of both CloneDVD 1.3.11 (or something alike, I just know its the last version) and AnyDVD 2.1.0.9. I was trying to backup a CSS encrypted DVD. Opened the DVD with Clone DVD (AnyDVD already applied), removed whatever I don't wanted, and in the middle of the ripping process, Clone DVD stopped with a message that the DVD was a CSS protected DVD. What may be happening?

Rip the disk with DVDDecryptor to your harddrive. This removes the CSS protection. I believe the guides talk about this.

I understand that. Ripping with Smartripper will also remove the CSS. The problem is that I haven't found a way to author or remove undesired sections of the DVD (in order to allow for better movie quality) with Clone DVD using already ripped files stored on the Hard drive. Clone DVD only allows me (at least that was what I found) to author the DVD inside the drive, not already ripped files.

Try the Reauthor option in DVDShrink to remove what you don't want and then CloneDVD to back up the disc, that's the way I've been doing it.

bluntman72, but will I be able to preserve the menus if the DVD is re-authored with DVD Shrink and backed up with Clone DVD? Normally, re-authoring with DVDShrink removes menus...

noki, as far as I know (and learned from CloneDVD tutorials), CloneDVD does not offer any option for removing parts of an already ripped DVD. You can remove parts, of course, but in the fly, in other words, the DVD must be in the drive.

I haven't tried this myself, without pressing the "Re-author" button but after the DVD has been read by DVDShrink try unchecking the unwanted featurettes, soundtracks and subtitles on the right side and then press the "Backup" button. DVDShrink may say that the data is still larger than the 4.7GB target but continue anyway.

Once it's completed, start CloneDVD and choose the "Clone DVD" option. It will then compress the files to fit on the blank DVD. Also, make sure that the "Preserve Menu" button is checked.

Personally, I don't keep the menus, subtitles or soundtrack that's not in 5.1. This way as soon as I insert the DVD into my player it plays automatically.

Yes, Tompika, I've tried it. From what I've learned the only options that let you remove specific parts of a DVD are the Copy DVD Titles option (top button of Clone DVD intro screen) and the Clone DVD option (middle button of the intro screen). For burning already ripped and processed data you need to use the Writing Existing Data option (bottom option), but this one does not allow to change or remove anything.
