Hi, I'm converting some vob files I ripped from a DVD to .avi and sound output to a .wav file instead of an .ac3 file. WHen I convert it, I get an avi file that works fine, and a .wav file that is empty. If I try audio output to .ac3 than it works. Anyone have any ideas? I'm at the end of my rope

  2. I'd try re-installing DVD2AVI.

Are you sure about your settings in it?

I don't think so, but perhaps you need ac3filter installed for the 'demux to wav' function to work.

You could convert the ac3 file that you extract - there are several tools that could do this; BeSweet (& GUI) etc..

There are other ways to extract the audio to a wav - e.g. VirtualDubMod etc..

    ..just a few ideas!

    cheers,
    mcdruid.

I have had this exact problem a few times.

For the discs in question, if you try to 'decode to wav' you get no audio output.
The first sign of this is the audio properties box in the log remains empty during the processing. This is the first thing I look for when I start it off.

I resolved this by doing a 'demux' instead of 'decode'
The audio properties in the log should now show 'mpeg audio'

I would then load this into TMPGE the same way I would load a wav file when encoding.

I hope this is of help.

Hi, thank you both for the suggestions. They were very helpful, I tried using Headac3e to convert the AC3 file to .wav and it works great. This adds another step however, which takes longer when you have alot of files to process, so if anyone can still let me know if there's a way to fix the DVD2AVI problem that would be great. But thank you for the help![/quote]

Does DVD2AVI say "mpeg audio" in the audio properties during processing ?
Have you tried loading the audio file produced by DVD2AVI directly into TMPGE when doing the encoding ?

It works fine for me so I don't actually have to add any steps to the process.
