Question for those that use ReelDVD...

I would like to use the application mainly for converting WAV audio to AC3 audio (no video). I'm aware that there is an LE and a Studio version, and before making a purchase, would like to understand how straightforward the process is and what versions support AC3. I've looked at the Sonic website, and of course couldn't find this info.

I've tried a couple of apps that support AC3, and found that I had to use their capturing & authoring process as well. Essentially, I need the WAV-to-AC3 process to be a stand-alone feature, and not have to be tied into the apps other procedures.

In case your wondering, I've already tried BeSweet, and can't use it due to compatibility issues. I appreciate your feedback.

REEL DVD costs more than Vegas w/ the ac3 encoder pack and does less in the way of encoding audio for ac3 (you can surround pan and such in vegas) plus vegas supports Dolby AC3 EX

or you could buy acid with the ac3 plugin also - for even less ....

the ac3 plug in pack for acid and vegas is here http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/Products/ShowProduct.asp?PID=772

or you could also buy vegas + DVDA for about the same cost ... comes with the same ac3 encoder plugin built in to vegas ... you dont need to use DVDA

You probably want Sonic MyDVD Deluxe 5 which does AC-3 encoding. You can downloaded it and then register it for $70 or for $100 you can purchase the step-up version called Sonic MyDVD Studio Deluxe 5 and for the price of $100 you actually get it shiped to you on DISC plus for the extra money you get RecordNowMax which is a great DVD burning program.

Anyways both do 2.0 AC-3 encoding.

I haven't tried it yet but I'm thinking of buying the $100 Studio Deluxe version.

    Thanks for the replies.

I still do need info regarding ReelDVD. I'm able to purchase a used copy at a good price, thus my reason for focusing on its audio encoding capabilities. Also, my encoding needs are basic 2-channel AC3.

well - i think (pretty sure) that ReelDVD's ac3 encoding isnt a "stand alone function" , its been a while since i used it...
